Microsoft Surface Warranty Report

Clarity can retrieve Microsoft Surface device warranty information for devices in your environment.

This article explains how to:

  • Enroll in the Microsoft Surface Warranty API

  • Configure the Surface connector in Clarity

  • Understand the ingestion and refresh of the data

  • Understand the Surface Warranty Information Dashboard

Prerequisites

Before enabling the connector, ensure you have enrolled for the Microsoft Surface Warranty API. See below the steps on how to enroll.

Microsoft Surface Warranty API Enrollment

To enable Surface device warranty data in Clarity reports, customers must get access to the Microsoft Surface Warranty API for their tenant.

This is a one-time configuration performed directly with Microsoft and is required before Rimo3 can retrieve Surface warranty information.

Before requesting access, ensure you have:

  • At least 50 Intune-registered Surface devices in the tenant

  • Surface Management Portal Access

    • Active account on [Surface Management Portal](https://surface.ams.microsoft.com)

    • Completed customer validation check

  • Microsoft Entra ID Application Registration

    • Create a Microsoft Entra ID App Registration with: Application (Client) ID and Client Secret

    • Add API permission: Microsoft Graph→ User.Read (delegated permission)

    • Grant admin consent for your organization

Step 1: Request access to the Microsoft Surface API

Microsoft grants access to the Surface Warranty API on a per-tenant basis.

How to request access

Send an email to:

surfaceapimanagement@microsoft.com

Include the following details in the email body:

  • Company name

  • Microsoft Entra ID Tenant ID (GUID format)

  • Tenant primary domain
    (for example: contoso.onmicrosoft.com)

  • Application (Client) ID
(from the Microsoft Entra ID App Registration used for Rimo3)

  • Estimated number of Intune-registered Surface devices
    (minimum required: 50)

Step 2: Wait for Microsoft confirmation
  • Microsoft typically confirms access within up to 5 business days

  • No further action is required during this time

After Approval

  • You'll receive a link to the Surface API Management Service Portal

  • Sign in using your approved tenant (admin profile required)

  • Subscribe to the Product to generate your Subscription Key

Once you have the Subscription Key, you can configure Surface Warranty Connector in Clarity.

    Configuring the Surface Warranty Connector

    1. In Clarity, go to: Admin Settings→ Feature Configuration tab
    2. Select: Surface Warranty Configuration
    3. In the Setting section insert the Application ID, Application Secret and API Key you've obtained from the enrollment

Click Test connection (or Validate). The validation should confirm:

    • Authentication is successful
    • The service is reachable

If the validation is successful, click the Enroll Now.

Once enrolled, it may take up to 5 business days to see your data.

Make sure to have the Connector enabled switched on, to refresh the data.

    Data ingestion and refresh

Surface Warranty data is being pulled from Microsoft Surface Warranty API every 24h.

    Surface Warranty Information Dashboard

In Clarity, navigate to: Reporting → Intune Dashboards → Asset Insights→ Surface Warranty Status

The Surface Warranty Information report provides visibility into warranty coverage across your Surface fleet so you can:

    • Identify devices already out of warranty
    • Warranty type
    • Warranty Status
    • Procured devices
    • Devices age and status
    • Warranty Details

In addition to the built-in dashboard, customers can also create custom dashboards by selecting Intune and Microsoft Entra ID data sources and using the v_WarrantyDetails_Surface view for advanced and tailored reporting.
